Historic core
A fortress beside the river.
Kastel stands in central Banja Luka on the left bank of the Vrbas. The city’s tourism organisation describes it as Banja Luka’s oldest historical monument.
Archaeological finds and historical sources point to a long continuity of life at the site. A link with the Roman settlement of Castra is considered likely, but is presented here as a historical possibility rather than a final claim.

Stone shapes the space. The river sets the rhythm.
Within the walls
Kazamat today.
The restaurant is inside Kastel beside the Vrbas. Banja Luka’s tourism profile calls it one of the city’s oldest restaurants and describes an interior built from stone, wood and iron.
Today, that architecture is best experienced at the table: beneath the vaults, over wine and dishes rooted in Banja Luka and the wider region.
